Artist Julie Kent has been awarded this year’s $12,000 John Shaw Neilson Acquisitive Art Prize, as part of the weekend’s Penola-Coonawarra Arts Festival. Julie’s winning entry “Undressed” was inspired by the poem ‘As Far As My Heart Can Go’. Judge Leigh Robb, from the Art Gallery of SA, described the winning entry as a “very moving painting” that caught her eye immediately. “(It is) an incredible use of colour and light and beautiful brushwork – a very tonal, atmospheric work,” she said. Artist Rose Milton was chosen as the Local Prize winner for her painting “Once Upon a Time”, inspired by the poem ‘From A Coffin’. The annual prize requires artists to create a piece inspired by the work of the early Penola poet. 📸 LEFT:…
